How do you report a user?

I've had it up to here with what I strongly suspect is one person, in the League of Supposed Moderates Slash Potential Shills Slash GOP FUDers, cross-posting with at least two freshly minted IDs.

While I try to humor a lot of dumb bullshit -- obviously because that's what I ask of others in regards to my own views -- I would like to know what the procedure for dealing with this sort of thing is.

I don't run around tossing out troll ratings left and right.  Other MyDDers don't do it that often.  There's no excuse -- especially for using multiple IDs to create puffery for views that are not the main on this site.  It makes the few authentic moderates who post here look a bunch of shills, ne'er-do-wells, and just dicks.

I imagine (none / 0)

that you believe that I posted comments under multiple names. That is simply not the case. I am only one person and I post under only one name.

I am somewhat surprised that my single comment to you about Congressman Tim Ryan has resulted in such a harsh reaction. Perhaps my original comment to you was rude, perhaps not, but for you to take my one sentence response and build a conspiracy theory out of it which also suggests that two other users of this blog are not real people seems an over-reaction.

Given the fact that you have posted 1260 comments to various diaries on this blog, I suspect that you understand that blogs are notorious for both personal and pungent comments. Because this is the case, I am not offended by your comments about myself. That is certainly your right and since I took a shot at you, perhaps it is no more than I deserve. To suggest, however, that I or any other user of this site is acting improperly when you have absolutely no proof to back up your claims is uncalled for.

don't worry (3.00 / 1)

about ratings.  they're dumb and pretty useless, and their only purpose is to alert the caretakers of this blog as to who's a shithead that needs (ultimately) banning.  You don't, so no worries.

Ratings alter placement (none / 0)

It helps position comments higher.

If I person were inclined toward ratings inflation, they could move their comments above everyone else's.

So this is, (none / 0)

like, the default setting, to have comments ordered by rating? Jeebus.

I make a point of going through and checking all the setting options when I first join a site like this, so I must have switched it right away. You can go to the "Comments" section of your options page and choose different ways of ordering them. (I've found chronological sort of useful.)

Yeah, I'm cynical.

People rarely do that (none / 0)

Most folks never take the time to figure out how a website's system works.

I'm not a fan of comment ratings.  Actually, I'm not a fan of comment threading, because it encourages piling on.

In my website programming work, I've found more useful to either ditch the comment system altogether or to remove the ratings and threading.

When every dumb comment stands on an island, you'll find flame wars and general stupity drop.

In this particular case, I just found something very fishy about the level and intensity of co-ordination among multiple user names.

Even without a rating system, every group blog out there is prone to that sort of abuse.
